[Better to ask forgiveness than permission, honestly.]
Just because. Hang on, let me come down so that we don't have to keep yelling.
[It'll take her a minute, pulling back enough rope to twist around herself so that she doesn't have to hand-over-hand her way down, but it might be obvious to Susie that this isn't the first time she's done something like this, either. There's a single moment of hesitation before she drops herself proper, shaking her head, but soon enough she's on the ground!]
There was a... friend I used to have. He used to grab me when I wasn't expecting it and jump off balconies--or anything else, as long as it was high enough.
It's been a while since I last had a room with a balcony, so... [She spreads her hands, shrugging. She figures Susie can put the pieces together and figure out how she arrived at climbing down like this.]
( it sure isn't! she moves with the same expertise that haze does, and considering haze is a fugitive witch feline who's probably the most agile and devil-may-care woman susie has ever met, that is very impressive.
she waits patiently and curiously, but.
girl what )
I'm sorry, he'd just... grab you and jump?
(
WELL IT SEEMS LIKE WAVE IS FINE WITH IT SINCE SHE'S CLIMBING BALCONIES AND ALL BUT LIKE, WHAT?? )
[--OH WAIT THAT'S NOT A NORMAL THING, IS IT, SHE SHOULD MAYBE EXPLAIN--
Susie will probably see the moment the realization hits her; her eyes widen just a touch and Wave blushes, even as she gives a sheepish laugh. It had honestly become such an ingrained part of their relationship that she hadn't even considered how it might sound to say it to someone else!]
Well, he can manipulate air. So he'd jump, but he could stop the fall before we landed. Then he'd just... step off the little ledge he'd made and back onto solid ground. As long as he wasn't being a complete idiot jumping off clock towers, it didn't hurt him at all.
[Her expression goes a little bit harder at the mention of jumping off a clock tower, but there's no anger in her voice. Idiots do dumb things!!!!]
( she doesn't say anything about the clock towers bit- there's a story there and she knows it's not pretty... and after the time she had before this event, she's pretty sure she can't stomach that sort of thing. no, she'll just smile and nod. )
Mm... sounds like something some of my new coworkers would do, honestly. Everyone on Rhodes Island is very colorful.
Only a few weeks, but it's been... a lot. Rhodes Island iiiis a pharmaceutical company primarily, but it's also a multinational humanitarian non-government organization. As such, it's primary patients reside on the base, but can also act as first responders in emergencies, or... um. Dealing with other things.
( susie winces a bit as she talks before sighing. )
Rhodes Island's primarily goal is to find a cure for Oripathy... it's just that those with Oripathy are often in very dangerous situations, and often in need of rescue. Nevermind the political aspects...
( a pause, and then: )
One of the primary doctors' daughter is a pyromaniac.
[She listens, and though some of it goes over her head (pharmaceutical company? Multinational humanitarian non-government organization? She knows what those words mean individually, but together...? No idea), she thinks she's gotten the overall gist of the situation.
Including one important key point that maybe she would have missed if she hadn't been raised by her particular mother.]
"Patients"? So are you and all your coworkers...? [It's worth noting that even though she's asking this question, Wave isn't making any moves to put distance between them. The only real change to her expression is a small line between her eyebrows that appears as she casts a quick look over Susie. Is she sick in some way...?
Unfortunately, this also means that she won't be distracted away by the mention of the other doctor's daughter! Sorry, Susie, you chose to say this to someone who... has a pretty prolific doctor for a mother...]
Not... everyone. Since it's not actively contagious- the disease comes from a mineral that's native to Terra, and doesn't spread through person to person easily for the most part.
( she... it's the coward's way out, but she'll let wave draw her own conclusions here. )
... But Rhodes Island is one of the few places an infected person can live safely and actually earn a decent living, while also getting affordable treatment.
[It doesn't really matter if Susie does or doesn't have it, not to her. Something about the way the separation between worlds works--even if it did spread via person-to-person contact, it's odd how things do or don't work among a group of people such as this.]
People shouldn't have to work for a company to earn treatment for a condition. It's good that they have options, but...
[But maybe she shouldn't push it too much. Wave shakes her head, then softens her words with a little smile.]
Sorry. My mother's a healer, back in Coriolis. She's always believed that it's her duty to our people to do anything she can to take care of them. She'd be so mad...
No, it's alright. I agree, honestly, but... the medicine and other procedures, depending on how Oripathy has damaged the body, are all horribly expensive. Equipment, board and food, too... O-oh, but even then, almost all of the operators' work is voluntary, though- everyone has their reasons.
( silence wants to cure herself, her best friend and her daughter. the ursus girls want to regain control of their lives after chernobog and ensure that happens to absolutely no one else. some want to prove to the world that they deserve to exist, others have a bone to pick and this is an outlet.
... )
It's a mess. A great big mess, made worse by fear, discrimination, and greed. But at lest someone is trying.
Does anybody use magic in Terra? It sounds like a good healer could do a lot to help.
But you're right. Something like that needs a lot of people that are in it to help people, not just for themselves. It must be really hard on everyone there.
... We have Originium Arts, but none capable of healing Oripathy- in fact, Oripathy makes one's Arts stronger. And it's not that everyone at Rhodes Island is just in it for themselves- they all have their own reasons to fight, is what I meant. Everyone there is there to help, still.

( love that wave would fit right in at rhodes island. like, she wouldn't be allowed to just do that, but she'd fit in. )
Is... there something wrong with the door, or... is it just because?
