[The scavenger hunt seems simple enough on paper - it just seems like, you know. Ways to facilitate spending time with people and getting to know them, which makes sense with the entire premise of this little game.
In practice it feels incredibly awkward to just go up to people and start grilling them about how many siblings they have, their romantic history, or to get them to do things with you... Maybe someone more confident and charming then Heathcliff would have an easier time of it, and they knew how to bring up these questions without them sounding stiff and unnatural. Or they would be like Shino, who he knows would just bluntly asking a complete stranger and question he felt like, but his friend is far, far away.
So Heathcliff decides the first step to being confident he can ask someone to learn an instrument with him, or play alongside him, is... to learn the instrument first. The odd one shaped like a musical note catches his attention, because he's never seen anything like it before. It takes a few moments of him turning it around before he's able to get it to make a noise.
Which absolutely startles him, but it's at least not enough to get him to drop it. He just was not expecting it to sound like that. The noise is so strange that he has to do it again, and then again, trying to figure out what on earth could be inside this smiling music note to make this horrendous noise.
So yeah. He's just sitting in the music room, otamatone just WAAAAAHHH WAAAAHHHHH WAHHHHHing away with absolutely no rhythm at all.]
